The cheetah is the fastest animal
on the planet. It lives in Africa and in India, the Near East and
Central Asia. The cheetah’s scientific name is Acinonyx jubatus. The
cheetah is one of the world’s most recognizable cat, known especially
for its speed. The color of the cheetah is bright orange with some black
spots. They are about 75 cm tall at the shoulder. Weight ranges from 34
to 54 kg. In 1900 an estimated 100 000 cheetahs were
found in habitats throughout continental Africa and from the Middle
East and the Arabian Peninsula to India. They are predators and hunt for
cloven-hoofed animals, such as zebras and gazelles. The maximal speed
of the animal is up to 110-115 km/h. But in Africa, the cheetah is the
weakest animal of other predators such as hyenas, leopards and lions.
Because they may take a prey of it. But, despite of it, the beauty and
the elegance of the animal is amazing.
