A man is cutting down a tree near a river. Suddenly a drops his axe into the river. He sits down and begins cry.
Mercury, the owner of the river, looks at the man and says, "Why are you crying? Don't cry." then Mercury brings up a golden axe and gives it to the man. But the honest man shakes his head. He does not want to take it, because it is not his axe.
Mercury brings up a silver axe. Again the honest man does not take it. After that Mercury brings up the man's axe. The man takes it and says, "Thank you."
Mercury likes the man's honesty and he says, "Take all the axes." The man thanks Mercury and goes home.
Suddenly he meets his friend and tells him about Mercury. His friend wants to have a golden axe and he drops his axe into the river. Mercury brings up golden axe and says, "Is it your axe?" "Yes", the man says, "it is my axe. Give it to me, please". But Mercury does not give him the axe.
