Once there lived an old man and an old woman. And they had a speckled hen. One day their hen hatched an egg. It was no common egg but a golden one. The man tried to crack it but he could not. The woman tried to crack it but she could not. A mouse scurried across the table and brushed it with its tail. The egg fell on the floor and broke into small pieces. The man cried, the woman cried and the speckled hen said: «Do not cry, old man. Do not cry, old woman. I will hatch another egg for you. It will be not a golden egg but a common one.»
