A 28-year-old man (was arrested) last night at the North London home, and
later (charged) in connection with a series of burglaries in the area.
At the press conference this morning, Detective Inspector Richard
Jevis, who (is leading) the police investigation into the burglaries,
(explained) that details of the crimes (were given) last night on the
television programme "Crimestop". The Inspector (described) how, after a
witness' description of the burglar (given) on the show, dozen of people
(telephoned) the police, all identifying the same suspect. The
Inspector (went on) to say that a police (had been sent) straight round to the
man's house, where they (found) him watching television. Then he (was asked)
why the man (had not tried/did not try) to escape earlier when he (saw) himself on
"Crimestop". Detective Inspector (laughed) and (said), "He (did not watch)
"Crimestop"—he (was watching) his favourite soap opera on the other channel."
