но это тоже не очень, получилось, что гостей держат в коридоре, а картины на столе)

Hall это не только коридор, но и зал или фойе. Если visitors перевести как посетители, будет вполне нормальное предложение. И почему бы картины не положить на стол. Стена здесь думаю будет не уместна, она же не furniture
