Объяснение:When her parents moved house, Mary liked the new house at once. There was a green lawn in front of it, with a nice flower bed right in the middle. Mary often told her mum that she wanted to have a dog so that she could play with it on the lawn. The mother usually did not answer and Mary thought that was a good sign. But time went on and there was no puppy. “Why can’t I have a dog?” Mary asked one morning when her parents were having dinner on the terrace. Mary had eaten her meat pie already and was feeling bored. Dad looked at her very seriously. “A dog is not a toy. We needed to be sure you were able to take care of it.” “I am!” Mary exclaimed. “We’ll see,” her father continued. “Did you know Mr. Smith?” “The old man who lived across the road? Yes, I did.” “Fine. The thing is that he was leaving for a long trip and could not take his dog with him. If you agreed to take care of his dog for two months and did it really well, we would give you a puppy afterwards.” Mary thought for a moment. “Yes,” she said. “I agreed.”
