braydonbarkerSalvador Dalí (1) must have been the son of Salvador Dalí Cusí, a notary, and Felipa Doménech Ferrés. His family lived in Catalonia, Spain, but as the family owned a nice summer cottage, they might have spent summers in the seaside of Cadaqués, where Dalí could have assimilated the coastal landscape and befriended his family. It is known that in Cadaqués, he also (4) may have begun painting with Ramyn Pichot, a family friend. In 1904 (2), Salvador Dalí (5) began his formal education at a public school and (6) must have been a good student, but his father had to switch him to a private school where instruction was in French. Later, he studied at the San Fernando Academy of Art in Madrid, where he (7) could have met Federico García Lorca and Luis Buñuel as they were also studying there. As an art student in Madrid and Barcelona, Dalí (8) made a vast number of artistic styles and displayed unusual technical facility as a painter. It was not until the late 1920s, however, that Dalí began to study and experiment with Surrealism.
