Помогите поставить в Past Simple или Past Continuous

He (was still smiling) when he (was walking) up the rock-cut steps. 5. I (was sleeping) soundly when the phone (rang) 6. We (were sitting) on our front porch when Mr. Smith (drove) up in his new car. 7. It (was drizzling) when they (came) out of the house. 8.
