Titicaca is one of the biggest lakes in the South America. It has the largest amount of fresh water on this continent. Its name translates as country of cougar - sacred animal of Indian tribes, inhabiting the nearby territory. Titicaca is situated in the Andes and is the highest lake in the world, in which boats can go. The lake is located on the border of two countries - Peru and Bolivia. The maximum depth of the lake is near 280 metres. Studies show that the lake was once a bay. Until now, it is inhabited by sea fish and crustaceans.
