Carl Friedrich Hieronymus von Münhausen is a German baron who actually existed from 1720 to 1797, captain of the Russian service and narrator, who became a literary character. Munchausen often told neighbors incredible stories about his adventures in Russia. His stories were usually held in a hunting pavilion built by Munchausen, hung with the heads of wild beasts and known as the \"pavilion of lies\".
