Sergei Korolev a rocket engineer and designer, who was born in 1907 and died in1966. He is considered a “father of the space program”.

Sergei Korolev studied at the Kiev Polytechnic Institute and the Bauman Moscow Higher Technical School. After graduating from the Moscow Pilot School, Korolev obtained the Pilot Certificate.

The engineer made a big contribution in the spacecraft development. He directed the design, construction, testing and launching of the Vostok, Voskhod, and Soyuz spacecrafts. In 1934 a book \"A rocket flight in stratosphera\" was published.

In 4 October1957, Korolev prepared and took part in the launch of the first Earth satellite in the world. He also prepared the first manned space flight in history, when on 12 April 1961 Yuri Gagarin\'s spacecraft orbited the Earth and came back successfully. The engineers also prepared the \"Voskhod-2\" spacecraft flight, when in 1965 A. Leonov made the first space walk in history.

Sergei Korolev was awarded with the title \"Hero of Labour\"(1956,1961). He was also the holder of Lenin Prize (1957) and the Tsiolkovsky Gold Medal.
