Athanasius Nikitin - one of the most ancient famous travelers of Russia and the world. This man was the first European to reach India. On his travels, he wrote the work “Walking in Three Seas” - a journey through India, Persia and Turkey, which lasted from 1468 to 1474. A famous traveler was born in the family of an ordinary peasant. At first he tried to be merchants, but it didn’t work well for him. His works were written in four languages. Three monuments were constructed for him. Nikitin died in Smolensk in 1475.
