Manhattan is the heart of New York. It is a small island. It has thirteen miles length. Its width is two miles. Many bridges connect Manhattan with the city.There are many skyscrapers in Manhattan. But many years ago there were only the Indians’ wigwams there. The Dutch Trade Company bought Manhattan Island from the local Indians in 1626. The Company paid twenty four dollars. The Indian called the island Manhattan which in their language meant”They cheated us”. A colony was founded there by the Dutch. It was called New Amsterdam. Then the city was captured by the English. It was renamed New York.
