I partially agree that if a man is wearing a grey coat it is not a reason to consider him a real gentleman. Elegant style is an attribute of a person with good manners, so it is also a part of the gentleman image.

A gentleman must be well-educated and know the rules of conduct. His behavior must not violate the ethic norm and be irritating to other people. Such a man is kind, polite and he keeps himself with dignity. His voice is pleasant and the manner of speaking is quite and logical. So, if a man is wearing a grey coat and behaves himself awkwardly, being very talkative or shy, he cannot be considered a gentleman.

However, a grey coat gives a right perception of an elegant person with the good taste and manners. Clothes, shoes and accessories must be appropriate to make a visual impression of a gentleman.
