  • The beginning of the American war of independence against Britain had several reasons. Britain after the Seven Years\' War suffered significant material losses. To repay them, the British government began to impose taxes on the American colonies. An arms stamp was adopted, according to which a tax must be paid for each business transaction. Also there were introduced a lot of indirect taxes. Britain forbade America to trade with other countries, which had a negative effect on the economy of the colonies. The colonies were supposed to obey all British laws. When the Americans staged a protest in the port of Boston, the British accepted a decree to strangle the insurgency at all costs and closed the Boston port. This led to more resistance from the Americans. All these infringements of the rights of the inhabitants of the colonies led to the beginning of the struggle for independence.
