The famous square in the central part of London is a favorite place for tourist attraction. Trafalgar square appeared in 1820 on the site of the old stables of Whitehall and was named after the victory of the British in 1805 in the historical naval battle near Cape Trafalgar. In the middle of this square you can see a column with the figure of Admiral Nelson on its top. Every year the main Christmas tree of the country is on Trafalgar square. A lot of meetings and demonstrations, as well as folk festivals are often held there. Not far from the square there is the London National Gallery which has great collection of paintings, the old Church of St. Martin and the arch of the Admiralty.
