Когда ставиться The в английском языке

There are two articles in English. They are definite article and indefinite article. The is definite article. We use definite article when the noun is already known.

I have a pen. The pen is red.

The is used before singular and plural nouns.

 A pen — the pen, pens — the pens.

We use definite article with

Rivers: the Thames. Mountain ranges: the Alps. Oceans and seas: the Indian/ the Red Sea. Deserts: the Sahara. Islands (groups): the Bahamas. Countries if + political term / plural: the UK / the USA.  Political institutions: the Government / the Monarchy. Newspapers (usually part of the title): The Times.  Cinemas / theatres / hotels:  the Holiday Inn.
