Mrs. Smallburn is known as Mrs. Win-a-lot. She has been the “Queen of Competitions” for the last sixteen years. Since she gave up her job as a geography teacher sixteen years ago, Mrs. Smallburn has become much more skilled at winning competitions. She enters about twelve competitions a month. At the moment she is competing for a fax machine. In fact there is virtually nothing in Mrs. Smallburn’s entire house, apart from her dog, which she has not won. She didn’t actually win the house the family lives in, but seven years ago she won another one worth Ј 50,000 which she sold later for Ј 100,000. Outside Mrs. Smallburn’s house there is a new blue Renault. It’s the fifth car she has won. She says she expects to win between twenty and forty percent of the competitions she enters.
