Are new technologies improving communication?

It is said that new technologies are improving communication. 

People believe that such technologies as social medias help them to talk to others. Of course it can be true but only in such a case if you live far away from your friends whom you talk to. Also it is very comfortable and easy to communicate with the help of mobile phones or laptops. But can we say that these new technologies are improving the communication? To my mind it is not true. Communication is more than just chatting, it involves body language, eye to eye contact, feelings and emotions that can not be seen while talking through social medias or by phones. When you talk to somebody you should feel him and not just listen to his words. So I must say that new technologies can not improve communication.
