Past Indefinite or Past Simple shows an action which took place in the past. It is formed with the help of –ed when verb is regular and when verb is irregular we use the second form of irregular verb.

To wash — washed.

To listen — listened.

To go — went.

To sing — sang.

We used Past Indefinite with the words ago, yesterday, last week, the other day.

We washed our car yesterday.

They met last week.

Tom wrote this letter some days ago.

Interrogative and negative is formed with the help of auxiliary verb to do. The Past Indefinite of to do is did.

Did I play the piano? (Interrogative).

I did not watch the film. (Negative).
