The Puritans, the English Protestants, people who want to “purify” the Church of England of all Roman Catholic influence, were put in prison and sometimes even killed in the reign of the king James the 1^st. In 1620, they sailed from Plymouth in a ship called the Mayflower to start a new life in America. The service they held to thank God for their arrival became a traditional annual celebration in America, called Thanksgiving — a day to gather friends, feast and give thanks.
