Why do Russians build such colossal things as the Cathedral of Jesus Christ the Saviour the Kremlin's Palace the Rossiya

Personally, I think that the monuments` size has something to do with the feelings that the Russians experienced while establishing these colossal things. Take, for example, the Mother Russia Monument in Volgograd which is dedicated to the Battle of Stalingrad that took place during The Great Patriotic War. This battle means a lot to Russians as it has marked the turning point in the war and it has taken soviet soldiers a lot of effort to defeat Wehrmacht forces.
