В настоящий момент учеными-астрономами принято считать, что в нашей Солнечной системе есть восемь планет (раньше их было девять, но Плутон теперь планетой не считается). Их разделяют на две основные группы по структуре: твердые (планеты земной группы) и газовые планеты. В каждую из групп входят по четыре планеты. Твердые планеты, в состав которых входит и наша Земля, многократно уступают размерами газовым гигантам. А самая крупная планета - Юпитер.
