It`s good when children (teach) about the enviroment from a young age. Then they (understand) that everyone can make a difference to their community, their town and the world.

(1), (2) и (3) - там passive по контексту никак не подходит, поэтому там я поставил по смыслу. если смысл вообще неважен, бредовые, но пассивные варианты под чертой.
