One of the most famous gymnasts ever is a young gymnast from Romania: Nadia Comaneci. Nadia is Romanian and she was born in 1961. Today Nadia is a wife and mother but when she was only fourteen years old, she was the best gymnast in the world. At the Summer Olympic Games in Montreal, Canada in 1976, she was really amazing. She was the first Romanian gymnast to win the all-round title, for all the different gymnastic events. She was also the youngest in the world. Now the age rules are different and gymnasts can't compete under the age of sixteen. So the record is Nadia's for ever! She was also amazing in 1976 for another reason. She was the first gymnast to score a perfect 10.00. It was her first event, the uneven bars. On the scoreboard after her thirty-second routine, the score was 1.00. Everyone was confused. Why was it only 1.00? She was fantastic! It was because the scoreboard only had three numbers. For example, 9.75 was possible, but not 10.00!
