  • Last Sunday was definitely not a good day for me. It all starts

when I get into my car and it refuses to start. I immediately realize that I left the light on and the battery. my friend George's phone and it's flat. I come around and help me start the car. Then I go to the city to see a friend. I

agreed to meet him at six thirty, but by the time I get there, it

it will already be ten past eight and my friend won't be there yet. I

I waited an hour for him, despite the frosty weather, but he did not come. As I was returning to my car, I saw that someone

opened it up, probably looking for a radio or something. Fortunately I never

don't leave anything in the car! There was nothing left for me but to get into the car

and go home. Later I find out that he has only been waiting for half an hour and I do not apologize for not waiting for me longer!

even talk to my friend and leave.

The inventor of the "package tour" was Thomas Cook. Born in Leicester in 1808, Cooke was a preacher who traveled the country telling people about the dangers of alcohol. He believed that people would be less likely to drink if they could get out of the cities and into the countryside on weekends. In 1841, while traveling in the North, he had a brain wave. He reserved an entire train to go from Leicester to Loughborough and back in one day. Cook organized many events for his clients, and the tickets, which he sold for one shilling fivepence, included everything from travel, food and entertainment. The "excursion", as he called it, was a great success and became more and more popular - he sold over 500 tickets. As the railroad network spread across Britain, Cook's excursions grew in scope. By the mid-1840s he was making tours to Scotland, Liverpool, Newcastle and London. By 1855, Cooke had been organizing tours for almost fifteen years and felt that he already had enough experience to start venturing abroad. He started from continental Europe but soon continued his tours to North America, Egypt and India. By the time of his death in 1893, Cook's name was already world famous and synonymous with excursions and what to start) like a humble day trip to the countryside was turning into a worldwide business.
