Michael Lomonosov, a son of an ordinary fisherman, was born in a little village not far from Arkhangelsk in 1711. When Michael was nineteen he left his home and went to Moscow and covered almost all this long distance on foot. A future great scientist studied at Moscow Academy and after its graduation he decided to continue his education abroad and became a professor of chemistry. Michael returned to his Motherland and started working in the first research laboratory. During his life Lomonosov made a great contribution in the developing of Russian science. The outstanding scientist worked not only in the field of chemistry. His works in physics, geography, history and astronomy are well-known. Michael Lomonosov is also considered to be the founder of Russian grammar. Michael Lomonosov was one of the founders of Moscow University which is named in his honor now.
