My teacher asked where my favourite place to read was.

 If the first part of the sentence is in present we don’t change tense in the second part of the sentence.(asks- Present Indefinite).

If the first part of the sentence is in past we change tense into past tense in the second part of sentence. (asked – Past Indefinite).
